Mere weeks after University of Stirling triathlete Isla Hedley won the Under-23 race at the World Triathlon Cross Championships, she went to Germany to compete in the XTERRA European Championship where she placed third.

The race consisted of a 1.5km swim, 37km cycle, and a 10km run which Isla finished with a combined time of 03:14:33. On top of a podium finish, Isla completed the swim in 00:21:02 which was the fastest of the event.

Isla finished behind Solene Billouin from France who took gold with a final time a 03:08:55, and second -placed Aneta Grabmuller from the Czech Republic whose final time was 03:11:26.

Isla is from St Andrews and is going into her second year of studies at Stirling, as she works towards a BA (Hons) in French.

The Lead Coach of the National Triathlon Centre, a partnership between Triathlon Scotland and the University of Stirling, Marc Austin, commented on the strength of Isla’s performance in Germany. Austin added that “she’s clearly moving forward in terms of her performance too – improving on the Worlds earlier in the season and building on last year’s progress too. Congratulations to Isla on her latest achievement – we’re excited for what’s to come next.”

Isla Hedley is not the only Stirling triathlete who has seen success recently. Tom Williamson placed second in the Para World Series in Montreal in July with a time of 00:57:32, seconds behind first placed Stefan Daniel from Canada who finished in 00:56:35.
