What is Sky Sports Halo?
Sky Sports have recently created a new “sister” channel called Sky Sports Halo. Which is supposed to be a space for women who love sports to come together.
They created this account on various different platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. In the hopes it would attract young female fans interest. However, it has frankly had the opposite effect on the internet.
Why has it become controversial?
The idea quickly sparked controversy, with many fans confused on why this was approved in the first place. Can men and women not enjoy sports together in the same space? Even though the idea may have had good intentions it hasn’t came across that way due to the content being posted on the account.
A variety of different videos have been posted on TikTok hinting at the idea of women not being able to understand sport in the same way men do. Such as pink writing being used and the mentions of hot girl walks and matcha which have absolutely nothing to do with sports.
This has left many viewers feeling upset and discriminated against due to their gender. Suggesting that Sky Sports were being sexist towards their female fans. It has become a widely talked about topic online with many sharing different views on the matter. Were Sky Sports intended to be sexist or is it all a huge misunderstanding?
The Effects it has had
Sky Sports Halo has indefinitely influenced the whole brand. It has damaged their reputation whether it deserved to or not. It is uncertain if Sky Sports will address the concerns that have arisen due to the creation of Halo, but many fans will be expecting some sort of apology.
Due to the controversy surrounding the account, Sky Sports have made the decision to no longer post on it until further notice.
