Stirling’s Women’s Football 1st team crowned BUCS Scottish Tier 1 League champions following a 3-2 win over the University of St Andrews on February 18.
The result confirmed the team’s position at the top of the league table, securing the title before the end of the season. It represents a major milestone for both the players and coaching staff after a campaign built on consistent performances and strong team cohesion.
Goals from Olivia McHarg and captain Lucy Jackman were among the key moments in the 3–2 victory
Across the season, the side recorded eight league victories, finishing seven points clear at the top of the table and wrapping up the championship with impressive efficiency. Their dominance throughout the season saw them steadily improve week by week, building momentum that culminated in the title-clinching result against St Andrews 2s.
Despite a game still to play against Glasgow on April 11, they’ve put up an impressive showing this season, going 8/0/1 and putting away 41 goals with only 7 conceded.
For some players approaching the end of their university careers, the triumph has been a long-awaited milestone. At the same time, for many others within the squad, it represents the beginning of what promises to be an exciting period of success in the years ahead. Despite two players graduating, the team remains well positioned to build on this year’s achievements.
Head coach Nile Robbins praised both the performances and the environment created within the squad this season.
“This group this year has been excellent, probably the best group I’ve had. Attitude and culture have defined this season.”
Robbins also highlighted the steady development shown throughout the campaign.
“We’ve played really well throughout the season, continued to get better with each week and have consistently worked hard every day to make sure we develop. The culture and attitude have always been excellent, and we’ve deserved the league title as a result.”
After winning the BUCS Scottish Tier 1 division, the team will now turn their attention to the BUCS Premier Tier North promotion play-offs, with their match scheduled for April 15. With the league title already secured and the majority of the squad set to return next season, the Women’s 1s will be aiming to carry their momentum forward and continue a memorable year for the programme.
