The University of Stirling Pole Fitness Society Showcase was this past Wednesday. Performances ranged from sexy to sultry to comical, a range of physics-defying action was on display.
Teigan kicked the show off with a dance to Tears by Sabrina Carpenter. Her routine ended with her chucking her shoe at President Laura. As with all Sabrina Carpenter videos, someone has to die; it just had to be done.
The showcase was hosted by Alex and Ellen, who engaged the crowd in quizzes, information, and most importantly, gossip (some very interesting tidbits about Fubar and the city council). These two had an excellent rapport with each other, the audience and performers, Ellen previously being a member of the society, and Alex being in a feud with one of the dancers over a bottle of Coke, happily resolved after the intermission.
A highlight of the show was Cody’s tribute to fellow Midwestern princess Chappel Roan. He and his cowboy hat swinging around the pole was a delight to behold. But all performances were fantastic from Grace and Ruby’s Lord of the Rings-inspired piece, Krrista’s fusion of pole dance and ballet, Jasmine’s perfect impression of an Abbey Lee Miller dance routine, Amira’s sexy routine (the only note I took was ‘legggs’), and Laura’s bouncy number, were intricate, expressive, and phenomenally done. I’m pretty sure they are all going to get a call from Issac Newton as they universally forgot to apply gravity.
The finale was a joyful group number. While not as polished as some of the other routines, it was clear that they were all having fun with the performance and are incredibly skilled dancers.
All in all, the Showcase was a fantastic time, fun, flirty, and probably against the laws of gravity. To find out more about the society, check them out on Instagram @Stiruni_polefitness.
