The volunteer recognition scheme is now up and running, and we’re really excited about it!

Volunteers make sport happen here at Stirling, whether it’s our dedicated committee members, photographers,  coaches and many more. We have introduced the Volunteer of the Month award, which allows Sports Union members to be nominated by fellow members and staff.

The first recipient of the award was recognised for their efforts in the autumn semester. There were five nominees and Carolyn Russell of women’s hockey won for her hard work both coaching and behind the scenes, making her invaluable to the club.

Starting from January, this will become a monthly award. All of the winners will automatically be shortlisted into a brand new award at Sports Ball. The nomination forms and information are uploaded at the end of every month to the Union website. From here, anyone can nominate a sports union member for this award. The sports union exec will then make their decision, and the sports president will announce the winner!

It’s great to see the introduction of the Volunteer of the Year award. The winner of this will be put forward by the Sports Union for BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) and SSS (Scottish Student Sport) Awards. We can’t wait to see who is nominated over the coming months. It’s brilliant to recognise the hard work of our volunteers!
