Nominations open for 2018 Union Elections

3 mins read

The nomination process has officially been launched for the 2018 Stirling Students’ Union Elections.

Students hoping to hold a Sabbatical or Executive position in the next academic year have until 12pm on February 26 to submit their manifesto, slogan and other documentation via the Students’ Union website.

Alongside the full-time Sabbatical roles of Union President, Sports Union President, Vice President Communities and Vice President Education, 13 Executive Officer roles are to be filled, including media officer, postgraduate officer and health promotions officer. An NUS delegate position is also open to people who identify as a woman or non-binary.

Union President Astrid Smallenbroek has this advice for anyone considering running for that position: “Being Union President is a fantastic opportunity and job, with so much scope to make a real difference and impact. If anyone has any questions or wants to shadow my door is always open.”

VP Education Matt Adie said: “If you’re thinking about running for VP Education then I’d strongly recommend you do so. No job will ever provide you with the opportunities and experiences that this one can. If you want to make a difference to the lives of students at Stirling and across the country, then this is the job for you.”

Current VP Communities Jamie Grant said: “Vice-President Communities is completely what you make of it. You have the dynamic, energetic, ever-changing chance to action the change you want to see, for almost 14,000 students – don’t let it pass you by!”

The election will be held between 9am on March 12 and 6.15pm the next day, with the winners announced just 45 minutes later at a results party event in Venue at 7pm. Important events along the way include the Candidate Hustings, which will be held on March 6 in the Atrium, and the more laid-back Alternative Hustings, which takes place in Venue on March 8.

If you would like to submit yourself as a candidate, further information and a link to the application process can be found on the Students’ Union website here. The link will only appear if you are logged in.
