ATVAs 2024: Tom Broekhuizen presents “The Calton Press”

1 min read

Tom has been a member of AirTV since his first year. He sat down with Brig to discuss his submission to the 2024 ATVAs.

When asked about his inspiration for the film, he spoke of Wes Anderson being the biggest and how it has inspired him to make quirky, surrealistic films instead of his usual documentary, realistic filmmaking.

“We used AirTV’s equipment to film it, and it was such a fun time. I got my flatmates and friends involved in the filming around campus”, Tom said.

“It’s the experience that will be remembered”

He mentioned that this is his “first year” submitting to the ATVAs after being an attendee last year and that, while a prize would be nice, “it’s the experience that will be remembered”.

Tom has a passion for filmmaking which is strongly reflected in his work, published under the tag, “the deaf ginger presents…” (see below).

“It’ll be interesting to see where things go”

The film stars AirTV staples, Logan Killiard, the McQuaid Brothers, Liam Murphy, Tom King & Tom himself.

In future, Tom would like to continue to experiment with his works. Whether it’s an Anderson-inspired film, or something else entirely. “I don’t necessarily want to make the same film again, but it’ll be interesting to see where things go”.
