Stirling Council launches consultation on Forthside redevelopment

2 mins read

Stirling Council has launched a consultation on the £19 million redevelopment plans in the Forthisde area, inviting local residants to have their say in an online survey.

Residents are encouraged to take part in the online survey which will run until 23 February. There will be in-person feedback at the Thistles shopping centre from January 20th. A drop-in consultation event will be held at the Engine Shed on January 27th from 11 am to 4 pm.

The Forthside master plan sets out designs for future residential and business development. The new design guide will upgrade road infrastructure, active travel and environmental improvements.

The Forthside area includes a 36-acre former Ministry of Defence (MoD) site. The site will be transferred from the UK Government to the Council as part of a £214 million partnership between councils. The MoD is expected to finalise the transfer by March 2024.

In February 2023, the UK government’s Levelling Up Funding gave Stirling Council £19 million to redevelop the MoD site. The funding goals include economic development and improved connectivity to the city centre.

It is estimated £16 million of this funding will enable the redevelopment of the site, and new access infrastructure supporting economic growth and inward investment.

The remaining £3 million from the funding will provide ‘new active travel infrastructure’ between surrounding communities in Stirling.

Stirling Council Leader Chris Kane said “This is an important opportunity for the local community to have their say in the ongoing transformation of this key area of Stirling.

“The masterplan sets out how we can deliver an exciting vision for the redevelopment of Forthside, including the MoD site, and achieve significant economic, social and environmental benefits for Stirling and the wider region.”
