Stirling Short Film Festival holds opening event

2 mins read

Stirling Short Film Festival held its first event last night on Stirling University campus, opening with the When I sing, Mountains dance event.

Another two special events are taking place as part of the festival, on February 29 and March 2.

Co- Creator and Curator Bosco Iacobucci spoke about the road to opening the festival. He explained:

“We’ve been working on this since December, so three months. It was just an idea and then we worked really hard. It’s been quite interesting to get different filmmakers to be on board.”

The programme continues on February 29 with Things You May Find Hidden In My Ear, a journey into experimental shorts using archival film.

Meanwhile on March 2, Spectacular Bodies will present a collection of short films exploring grief, joy, community, and self through dance. The screenings will open with a brief movement session lead by Doreen Mugisha, a Glasgow based movement coach.

The event last night included films like: Wool Aliens, a ethnographic essay by Julia Parks about the influence of the wool industry on spreading plants and ecosystems; and Three Mystics by Ioanna Filippopoulou, a hypnotising study of spirituality and texture.

A highlight of the programme was Four Roads, a film by Italian auteur filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher, exploring the depths relationships between neighbours can go with a long-range camera and some expired film.

Finally Ayla Dmyterko’s film On Volya paints the complicated relationships found in an identity and the mystifying ways we represent ourselves. Dmyterko is a Ukrainian-Canadian artist currently based in Glasgow, their director of photography, Alexander Hetherington, is a Stirling University Alumni.

Things You May Find Hidden In My Ear is taking place on February 29 at 6:30pm in Cottrell CB87, and Spectacular Bodies will be held on March 2 at 4pm in Creative Stirling.
