The results for the 2024 General Election are in, Brig has broken down the biggest news and most dramatic results from the night.
Labour wins massive super majority.

As of 8:30 am, The Labour Party have won a massive majority of 87 seats for 412 total seats in Westminister, one of the biggest parliamentary swings in peace time history.
Labour passed the 326-seat threshold for a majority at exactly five o’clock in the morning on July 5th.
The swing comes as millions of Britons turn away from the Conservative Party after 14 years of rule.
With this, Sir Keir Starmer shall become Prime Minister.
In his victory speech Starmer took a focus on the responsibility of the new government given its massive mandate saying that “We have to return politics to public service” and that his government will put “Country first, party second.”
Starmer was humble in his victory, thanking campaigners for their hard work and for not getting complacent as “Nothing is inevitable in politics.”
He also mentioned many many times that the party has changed in the last five year’s as he tries to distance the party from their historic defeat in 2019.
Scotland, including Stirling, turns to Labour as the SNP crumble

Over 75% of seats in Scotland have flipped from SNP to Labour, including Stirling and Strathallan.
The SNP have fallen massively from 48 seats in 2019 to single digit seats now with only 9 SNP MP’s heading to Westminster.
The Labour victory in Stirling means that Chris Kane will be the new member of Parliament for the area.
Labour has also taken most of the West Coast, the Central Belt and all of Glasgow.
Labour was the party in power in Scotland from the 1950’s to 2015 when they were wiped out by the SNP and now Labour has reclaimed their old territory.
Deputy Leader of the SNP Kate Forbes has said that the party must now “regroup” so that the party can come back stronger in 2026 for the Scottish Government election.
Conservatives suffer historic losses as many senior Tories lose seats.

The Conservative party have seen their worst ever performance in the history of the party.
The biggest key to their defeat has absolutely been the rise of Reform UK.
Several major Conservatives, such as Jacob Rees-Mogg and former Prime Minister Liz Truss have lost their seats.
The most important loses for senior Tories however have to be Penny Mordaunt and Douglas Ross.
Penny Mordaunt, the former MP for Portsmouth North and Leader of the House of Commons, is the woman that many believed would be the next leader of the party has now lost her seat.
Her constituency has been taken by Labour however, the reason for her defeat is undoubtedly Reform who took around 8,000 votes that likely would have otherwise gone to Mordaunt.
Douglas Ross is the leader of the Scottish Conservatives but now he too has lost his seat to the SNP.
This will leave the Conservative Party truly rudderless and without a clear direction as the leader of both the main party and the Scottish party is now up in the air.
Liberal Democrats and Reform UK surge

In the rest of the UK the Liberal Democrats have had their best result at a general election in over 80 year’s thanks to several factors such as tactical voting, a manifesto that looked to win over young people, targeting of Conservative safe seats and the very vibrant and eye-catching campaigning of leader Ed Davis.
The Liberal Democrats have taken 71 seats up from 11 seats in 2019
The real reason the Lib Dems have been so successful though is because of Reform UK.
Reform is a new party that has risen from the shadow of UKIP/The Brexit Party and is led by Nigel Farage.
Reform is a very right-wing party and as such has split the right-wing vote in countless constituencies thus handicapping the conservatives and allowing either the Liberal Democrats or the Labour Party to claim the seat.
Reform have taken a massive share of the conservative vote yet have only won five seats, one more than the Green Party who have won four.
Change on the horizon?

A landslide win for the Labour Party, a huge jump for the Liberal Democrats, the fall of the Conservative Party and the utter devastation of the SNP.
British politics is undoubtedly going to change massively as power shifts monumentally after this election.
Sir Kier Starmer has stated that change will not be swift even with such a large majority so, while people should not expect the country to change overnight, things are undoubtedly going to be very different in the UK in the future.
