The Bake Off is Back with a twist!

2 mins read

Britain’s favourite baking show has returned to Channel 4 for it’s 15th series, this time with a twist!

Twelve new hopefuls enter the Great British Bake Off tent to take on three challenges a week, unaware that the technical challenge has changed. An all-new ‘Taste and Bake’ challenge is introduced.

The Signature Challenge

The first Signature Challenge of the series is an Elevated Loaf Cake, challenging the baker’s decoration skills and use of unique flavour’s.

From Christiaan’s red miso loaf to Illiyins Hollywood Handshake worthy cinnamon roll loaf, cake week is off to an interesting start.

The Technical Challenge

The show is known for it’s technical challenge, where contestants must bake something with minimal instructions and no previous practice. This time there is no recipe at all.

The baker’s are given a few minutes to taste and inspect the technical challenge, then have to recreate it perfectly. Eight mini Battenburg cakes are required, with only two hours and fifteen minutes to do so.

First place went to Georgie, with near perfect Battenburg’s. Last place unfortunately went to Mike.

The Showstopper Bake

Hyper-realistic illusion cakes ended the show. Showstopper bakes ranged from a duck to a sewing machine, a pair of jeans to a chicken.

The judging is harsh, with Christiaan’s sewing machine praised for its decoration, but deemed over baked with an odd flavour.

Sumayah, the youngest baker at age Eighteen, produced a beautiful duck-shaped cake with exceptional flavours.

Star Baker – Who Won and Who Went Home?

No baker left this week, as Jeff fell ill the day of the second two challenges, leaving only eleven contestants. The hosts teased that two will leave the next week.

Star Baker went to John, who wowed the judges with his cherry flavoured signature bake, third place in the technical and a margarita flavoured pair of jeans.

Next week is Biscuit Week. Which two will leave the tent and who will reign victorious?
