The University Of Stirling is leading a study into an innovative new golf tee, designed by BirTee. The BirTee Pro Speed+ Tee, created by the Canadian golf company and approved by the R&A, is designed to be placed on top of the ground as an alternative to a standard tee, which is pushed into it.
The study will examine the effectiveness of the design by analysing its performance and durability. This research will be led by Dr Lewis Macgregor, Lecturer in Physiology and Nutrition and carried out by experts within the University Of Stirling’s School of Sport, as well as support from golf scholars and the university’s Head of Golf, Dean Robertson.
The study aims to provide an independent analysis of the variability and consistency of golf drives played using BirTee Pro Speed+ tees in comparison to standard ones.
Those involved in the study will examine a variety of performance measures including, golf head and ball speed, carry distance and total distance. The findings will help to determine if BriTee’s invention provides comparable performance reliability to standard tees as well as providing other benefits to players.

Dean Robertson, the Head of Golf at the University Of Stirling said: “BirTee Pro Speed+ have become a valuable addition to our practice environment at Stirling. . . I also think there is a wider benefit for golfers of all ages.
For older golfers, the simplicity of being able to tee the ball up and have it securely balanced without having to push a standard tee into hard or frozen ground could make the game more accessible.”
Abby Nisbet, University Of Stirling golf scholar and frequent user of the BirTee Pro Speed+ said: “They allow me to keep developing my skills regardless of the environment or weather, which is vital as an elite athlete.
Their simplicity and practicality provide excellent variability and the opportunity to keep hitting quality shots when we otherwise might not be able to.”
The study aims to provide new information on equipment consistency and performance. Ultimately, it is expected to help golfers, coaches and manufacturers understand the importance of the role that alternative golf tee designs can play in recreational and professional golf.
The president and founder of BirTee Golf, Mario Caya from Ontari said: “We are delighted to support this study, which will provide valuable insight into the consistency and performance of our product and help golfers, coaches and the wider industry better understand the benefits of innovative equipment.”
