Lana Del Rey might pull out of Glastonbury after line-up issues

3 mins read

Lana Del Ray says “we’ll see” to Glastonbury after organizers didn’t advertise her headlining “the other stage” this summer.

Following the Glastonbury 2023 announcement that Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, and Elton John will headline, the latter as part of his farewell tour. The festival announced its first wave of acts, including Lana Del Ray, Lewis Capaldi and Lizzo among others.

Sharing to Instagram, the singer said: “Thanks for announcing that I was headlining the other stage. Thumbs up.

“Well, I’m actually headlining the 2nd stage,” she wrote, adding: “But since there was no consideration for announcing that we’ll see.”

Music fans have criticized this year’s headlining line-up for its lack of diverse artists. Guns N’ Roses were added to the line-up after a previously confirmed female headliner pulled out due to a change in touring plans.

While she declined to name the artist, many fans had anticipated Taylor Swift, who was set to headline Glastonbury 2020 before it was cancelled due to Covid.

The line-up also includes rising acts such as Nova Twins, Raye, and Eurovision winners Maneskin, as well as Cat Stevens, who will play the “legend slot” on Sunday afternoon.

Following the announcement, festivalgoers took to social media to express their frustration, calling the line-up “disappointing” and “awful.”

Males make up half of the 54 names in this week’s line-up release, with more performers to be announced. Emily Eavis stated that she was “completely focused” on balancing the line-up, not just in terms of gender but also in terms of variety.

46% of the already announced acts are non-white or include non-white performers.

Eavis believes that the music industry needs to involve more female musicians in order to develop potential headliners. “We’re doing our best,” she said.

“The pipeline needs to be expanded. This goes all the way back to record labels and radio. I can shout as loud as I want, but we need everyone on board.”

According to Eavis, two women will headline Glastonbury next year, one of whom has been confirmed and the other nearly confirmed, both of whom will be first-timers. Rihanna and Madonna are among the headliners who have never performed at the event.

Glastonbury festival will take place at worthy farm on Wed, June 21, 2023 – Sun, June 25, 2023.
