BREAKING: Hamas proposes 135-day ceasefire with the return of hostages

2 mins read

Hamas has set out terms for a 135-day ceasefire, which sees the release of all Israeli and Palestinian hostages across three phases.

This comes as a counter-offer after Israel backed a ceasefire proposal alongside the US.

The proposal from Hamas would start with the exchanging of all Israeli hostages, captured on October 7, for the Palestinians who have been detained by the Israeli forces.

During this time, the deal would ensure an increase in the delivery of food and aid to Gaza.

The first phase would take place over 45 days, where all Israeli hostages who are women, males under 19, the elderly, and the ill would be exchanged for all Palestinian women and children being held unlawfully in Israel.

The withdrawal of Israeli forces from the more populated areas in Gaza would start here so that construction of refugee camps and hospitals could begin, and displaced Palestinians would have some shelter.

In the second phase, all remaining male Israeli hostages would be released alongside the remaining Palestinian prisoners. At the end of this phase, all Israeli forces should be completely withdrawn from Gaza.

Finally, all remains and bodies of victims on both sides would be returned to their families.

After the completion of all three phases, Hamas says the siege on Gaza would reach its conclusion and the war would end.

In conversation with Israel’s Channel 13, a senior Israeli representative said that some of the demands in the proposal could not be met. It is now unsure if Israel will reject the offer entirely or request different conditions.
