Almost two years on from the release of their sophomore album ‘Cuts and Bruises’, Dublin-Indie band Inhaler have released the first single from their next project, ‘Open Wide’, which comes out February 7.
The band have seemingly found their sound during their first big break from touring since the release of their first album in 2021. Their usual guitar-driven sound has been set aside, making way for the drums and a catchy synth beat, a clear difference from their earlier work.

A New Era
Perhaps we can also credit the drastic change in style to their new producer, Kid Harpoon, who is most known for his work with Harry Styles on his 2022 album, ‘Harry’s House’. Working with the producer has brought Inhaler’s music to new heights, achieving a level of musicality they hadn’t yet reached.
While the instrumental elements of ‘Your House’ offers an optimistic listening experience, the lyrics are honest and explore the feeling of needing something that is probably bad for you. This contrast can therefore equally engage listeners sonically, as well as on an emotional level.
The band cites T.REX as the biggest influence for this track in an interview with NME. This is easily noticeable through the gospel backing vocals which echo the lyrics of the chorus, and the finishing refrain of the song. A simple addition such as the the choir displays their newfound maturity and understanding in creating their music.
It is clear that the band has found a way to incorporate experimental aspects, whilst staying true to themselves, in making ‘Your House’. It is evident that each member (Elijah Hewson, Josh Jenkinson, Ryan McMahon and Robert Keating) can collectively involve themselves, and work to achieve what they have wanted since the start, a “band album”.
The single shows great promise for the rest of the album, an exciting hint of what’s to come.
