The Baldwins Episode Seven review: “Working Guy”

3 mins read

The seventh episode of The Baldwins focuses on Alec’s future acting career, a photo shoot for the eldest daughter’s face cream book, and the introduction of Alec’s assistant. All of this unfolds against the backdrop of summer coming to a close and the kids heading back to school.

Exterior shots of the Baldwins’ East Hamptons home open the episode, set to classical music. The mood is tranquil.

Music helps dictate the tone of the episode, as Alec reflects on a dilemma: should he return to acting, or fully commit to being a family man?

Interviews are the meat and potatoes of this episode. They narrate some of the scenes and offer a glimpse into the thoughts of the Baldwin family as they answer the producer’s questions from their white sofa.

Dogs, cats, and kids are what make the Baldwin household feel so hectic, and the show leans into this chaos. Quick, playful interludes of pets and children fill in the gaps between the main scenes. It uses the same familiar techniques as any other reality show.

There’s a sense of lightheartedness, fueled by the antics of the Baldwin kids and the introduction of Alec’s assistant. It all feeds into the episode’s laid-back feel.

Much of the show’s substance comes from back-and-forth shots of the usual suspects: dogs, cats, and kids.

There’s another exterior shot of the East Hamptons, again paired with classical music, which transitions the viewer from one moment to the next.

Since it’s a reality show, The Baldwins keeps a very people-focused lens—especially with Alec and Hilaria being interviewed on their white sofa (with Hilaria sitting, for some reason, in a basket).

The filming style is quick and in the moment. You’re always moving along with whatever’s happening—like the eldest daughter being photographed for her book. The camera matches the energy, darting around as fast as the photographer snaps pictures of her and Hilaria.

A playful tone carries through to the end of the episode, as Hilaria tries to retrieve a toy stuck on the roof while Alec is distracted, answering questions from the production crew.

But the mood shifts again toward something more serious, echoing earlier episodes. Alec says, “Acting can’t be my home anymore,” and Hilaria adds, “The weight has been lifted,” referring to the outcome of the trial.

Overall, the seventh episode of The Baldwins presents itself in a mostly lighthearted manner. But with summer ending, the kids returning to school, and lingering questions about the Baldwins’ future, the eighth and final episode promises to be an interesting, and possibly conclusive, one.
