It has been announced that Ross Laird was selected to compete in the competition, which will be held in South Carolina this summer.
The competition is played Ryder Cup-style, where university and college golfers are separated into the United States team and the rest of the world team, going head-to-head.
21-year-old Laird, who is a second year Finance student, is one of 12 golfers who will compete for Team International Men, and is the only golfer who studies outside of the states.
Reacting to the news, Laird said: “It is an honour to be selected to play in this prestigious event. It will be a privilege to represent Team International at such a prolific golf course.”
Dean Robertson, the University’s Head of Golf, said: “I am absolutely thrilled for Ross Laird on his well-deserved selection for the Arnold Palmer Cup. His work ethic, dedication and performances have earned him this opportunity to represent Stirling at this year’s competition – and there’s not a bigger stage in the amateur game to showcase his talent than at this prestigious event.
“We all wish him the very best of luck.”
This year’s cup will be played for at the exclusive Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, Jasper County, from June, 5 to June, 7.
