2 mins read

The Central Scotland Documentary Festival (CSDF) is returning to Stirling on Thursday October 30 to Monday November 3, showcasing an array of documentaries available to view at the Macrobert Arts Centre.

CSDF will open 30 October with a screening of The Marbles, followed by a Q&A with director David Nicholas Wilkinson. The film explores the debate surrounding the marbles taken in the 18th Century by Lord Elgin from the Ancient Greek temple The Parthenon, which are currently on display in the British Museum. Included in the discussion are examples of Scotland’s history of repatriation in returning contested artefacts.

Other events include the “A Doc, A Dinner and A Drink” gala event, after which the festival will present British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay with the Stirling 900 award for her contributions to the documentary genre.

Finlay will also be conducting an exclusive filmmaking masterclass. Her films The Great Hip Hop Hoax and Seahorse: The Dad Who Gave Birth are showing during the festival.

This year, CSDF is also introducing an Industry Programme, organised by filmmaker and curator Oliver Guy-Watkins. This will include Filmmaker Roundtables and a Fireside Chat with a guest director. It will be a great opportunity for up-and-coming and established creatives alike to connect and collaborate.

The documentary will close with the premiere of Still Pushing Pineapples, a documentary by Kim Hopkins. The film is a heartwarming deep dive into 80s pop star Dene Michael, famous for the hit song ‘Agadoo’. Guaranteed to fill the room with nostalgia, it will be an unmissable closing event.

Across the festival, audiences will witness a range of themes which have the ability to both challenge and entertain viewers. Festival director of CSDF Grahame Reid says: ” Documentary has the power to change the way we see the world

“Every film in this year’s programme offers a unique perspective, and we’re thrilled to bring together such a bold, diverse collection of stories.”

CSDF will run from Thursday October 30 until Monday November at the Macrobert Arts Centre. The full programme and tickets can be found on their website here.
