7 Quick Things To Remember When Voting In Person

1 min read

Politics Editor Emma from Brig explains how simple voting in person can be.

This year the Scottish Parliament election is on 7 May, 2026. You will have 2 ballot papers. One is for choosing your constituency MSP. One is for choosing your political party.

  1. Polling stations open at 7am and close at 10pm.
  2. If you’re a student, your Poll Card detailing where you vote could be sent to your permanent home address.
  3. Inside the Polling Station, you will be asked your voter number, street address and name.
  4. You receive your ballot papers and are directed to a polling Booth. (Pencils are provided).
  5. Cross an X in the box. If you make a mess, you will “spoil” your vote and it won’t be counted. Ask for help if necessary.
  6. After you have marked your ballot papers, post your papers inside the ballot box. Don’t overthink the process. It’s really simple when you’re voting in person.
