Last night at around 10 PM crowds of Glaswegians waited in angst to spot the Batmobile driving around Gotham City, formally known as Glasgow’s St Vincent Street. The corner of Wellington Street was also cornered off in orange barricades. Apparently, the Batmobile only comes out at night…
Bystanders informed me that certain scenes are only filmed at night. The Batmobile was supposed to drive past a red stripey hot dog stand, past the prop NYPD car and potentially skid over some ice. Frosty pavements could be easily spotted behind the barriers.
Local Argyle Street M&S worker Scott likes to turn up with his young nephew to spy on the actors. “Robert Pattison is probably inside somewhere warm right now on his tea break and we’re stood out in the cold rain like idiots. But it’s so exciting for the kids, I just hope we see something cool.”
Due to the fake ice covering the road Scott asked me: “Do you think Mr Freeze will pop out of the Batmobile?” (Scott later told me that this was a famous Batman villain).
Lee Aerial Lighting
We can expect some 360 degree angle view shots in the new Batman movie! Tall cranes by Lee Areal Lighting can be spotted on Glasgow’s Wellington street. The massive green cranes specialize in SFX and lighting.
Hurting Businesses and Angering Commuters
Several places will be closed for the week between August 19 and 28. This includes resturaunts and bars Malo, The Noble, The Bavaria Brahuaus and Gost due to the filming. It is unsure if these places will be compensated due to the disruption.
Businesses tend to be given very little notice and often suffer monetarily from filming events. Such as the Spiderman filming in Glasgow last year which angered a lot of local commuters on their way to work after short notice road closures.
Batmobile Spotted!
Local office worker Cameron Brown spotted the Batmobile from his window earlier this week. Glasgow continues to grow with anticipation for more exclusive Batman previews!
Should we be offended that Glasgow is the cheaper New York substitute, or will the filming of Spiderman and Batman become part of Glasgow’s film making legacy?
