And Yet I Slumber

By Simon Robinson

In her melancholy eye,

I danced for the moon;

led astray by her shadow’s lie,

to lay in a lover’s tomb.

No name on this grave,

my cries drowned by the tolling bell;

there I slept, the lonely knave,

as she wept, and snow fell.

Barren spectres left leaves

on the pale ground,

where my widow crept.

Daylight soothes her as she grieves;

and while she cried at winters sound,

quite still I laid, and to my hills kept.
