Harry Styles is not the first or the last white man to win an award however Mr Styles thinks otherwise.
The British singer was up against artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, Adele and also Beyonce who was rumoured to actually win the award this year.
If Beyonce had taken home the award she would’ve been the first black woman since 1999 to win the award.
When accepting the award for Best Album of the year Harry Styles was as shocked as everyone else, starting his speech with “well sh*t”.
After mentioning how he felt ‘ ‘inspired’ by his fellow speech Harry Styles foolishly said “This doesn’t happen to people like me very often”.
Well Harry, it happens more often than you would think.
However, in spite of all this, I don’t think Harry meant any harm.
There’s no doubt that Harry really didn’t think it through with that comment but I don’t think it’s as mean as people are saying.
In my opinion, it was in regards to his background. It’s a fair statement from Styles who attended a state school growing up. The singer had a part-time job and was raised by a single parent.
Something that I can relate to when I was growing up so I can see how he may come from humble beginnings.Fast forward to now and that is no longer the case.
The man is rumoured to have a net worth of $120 million so the poor little English boy isn’t so poor now.
The comment was tone-deaf considering the history of grammy winners, however there are worse things happening right now.
The pattern of rich celebrities claiming to be working class won’t stop with Harry Styles.
