The Laurettes Meet Me At The Mainstage is a delight. The band whose sound combines elements of traditional country folk, Celtic rock & 90s rave music have had a great past few years.

They have performed at festivals all across Scotland, performed at Murrayfield Stadium and even brought in the new year on the STV Hogmanay show. Their musical journey continues with the release of this debut album.

Flying Rhythm

Homebird, released in 2021 as a single, has become a staple of the bands live sets and for good reason. It’s joyous flying rhythm has proven to get a crowd going. “I can go anywhere and I know I’ll be alright”, they sing. It’s a hopeful song in a weary world. The drums on this track drive the song forward, with a soaring fiddle solo. Lynette Beaton and Lauren O’Donoghue’s vocals are unmistakably Scottish and their harmonies are stunning.

Mesmerizing

The other singles, Witches and Mainstage, show range with Witches being a much darker, mysterious track. Now with an extended intro to add to that mystique. With witchy chants in the vocals and the touch of an electric guitar, this is an absolutely soaring and mesmerizing tune. Mainstage, on other hand, is a indie-rock infused summery ode to festival season. “Meet me at the mainstage, two drinks in my hand” will make listeners long for those sunny, musical days.

Slipping, Slidding

The album highlight has to be the cheery Dopamine. Who doesn’t want a “Bombay sapphire, fever tree”? and the song has become another live-set staple with audiences getting onto the dancefloor to do some, “slippin, sliddin’ moovin’ grooving”.

The more understated tracks such as Upty Us and Chase the Waves are thoughtful ballads with laid-back instrumentation and evocative lyrics.

The Laurette’s prove themselves to be an unstoppable force with Meet Me At The Mainstage which will have you craving a pint of Guiness and feeling like a Techno Viking.
