Dead By Daylight has finally unleashed it’s long anticipated 2v8 game-mode. While matches usually consist of 1 killer versus 4 survivors this doubles both sides, meaning it’s 2 killers vs 8 survivors in a bloody, tense game.
Players can choose any survivor, however, they lack their usual perks, instead being based on a class system which lets them embody a specific role in the team – Medic, Guide, Scout or Escapist. However, those wishing to play killer can only choose from 5 options which are; The Trapper, The Wraith, The Huntress, The Hillbilly and The Nurse.
On first play (survivor), the game ran smoothly, if rather quick. The game lasted about 10 minutes and we ran through generators at a fast speed, losing only one survivor from the game.
However, the second game was more balanced, with the killers pulling their weight more to create a genuinely tense session. This survivor unfortunately did not last till endgame, however, the killer’s managed to block more generators from being finished and the combination (that is of The Hillbilly & The Wraith) proved to be a mighty combo.
Unfortunately, this player was unable to test things from the Killer side as loading into a game was near impossible with no connection after even 10 minutes in the lobby. Refreshing did not work either. This may just be one of the problems that comes with a 2v8 game, where one side requires more players join than the other.
As with many Dead By Daylight game modes, initial bugs were apparent. Rather entertainingly, during a few games, the map barriers were non-existent meaning that players could jump off the edge of the map and respawn in a random location or even run behind the exit gates. While amusing, it was an odd experience.
Overall though, this new mode adds some new life into the tired formula of Dead By Daylight even if it requires some ironing out.
