Art The Clown to return in Terrifier The ARTcade Game

2 mins read

The Terrifier franchise has gone from strength to strength, the original film was made for just $35,000 and was an indie horror darling, if controversial due to it’s extremely graphic nature. But in 2024, Art The Clown arguably cemented himself amongst horror icons like Freddie, Jason & Ghostface with the release of the $2 million Terrifier 3, becoming the highest grossing unrated film of all time. Now, Art returns to haunt audiences again, with things going retro.

Terrifier The ARTcade Game invites gamers to “step into a world of pixelated carnage” in a “gory retro fighting beat ’em up packed with intense action, dark humor, and tons of fun!“, influenced by the classic beat ’em up games of the 80s and 90s.

Tons of fun!

Players can team up with up to 4 players for a local co-op experience and work together, or against each other, in a variety of game modes. They will have access to a vast arsenal of weapons, including chainsaws and cleavers as they travel through multiple stages and boss battles to the tune of a chiptune soundtrack that “perfectly complements the retro aesthetic”.

The game currently has no official release date, although some sources cite an October release (which would make sense given the subject) and it is currently only available to be added to Steam and PS wishlists, with a Switch and X-Box version coming soon.

This news comes following a rise in retro stylised horror games after many franchises abandoned attempts at online asymmetric games due to varying successes. In October 2024, RetroRealm’s Halloween brought Michael Myer’s into the 16-bit landscape.

With a 4th film officially on it’s way, the Terrifier franchise maintains it’s grip over the current horror realm.
