University of Stirling golfer Lorna McClymont has been selected to compete for Great Britain and Ireland in the Vagliano Trophy.

This comes just a few weeks after McClymont was named the UK’s top student golfer in May after coming top of BUCS Tour Order of Merit.

The Vagliano Trophy is an annual women’s amateur international match between Great Britain and Ireland and the Continent of Europe, which will be staged at the end of the month at Royal Dornoch.

“I am absolutely delighted to be selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland. Royal Dornoch is up there as one of my favourite golf courses, so the Vagliano Trophy being there makes it even more special. I look forward to helping the team in what is sure to be a fantastic match.”

McClymont has had a phenomenal season overall, winning the Women’s Irish Open title, the Women’s Welsh Open title, the Stirling International Autumn Trophy, Scottish Student Championships, the Tour Finals, and the R&A Student Tour Series.

Most recently, the 22-year-old from Dumbarton was nominated for Female Student Athlete of the Year at the Scottish Student Sport Awards.

With Lorna McClymont having been only one of 8 selected to compete in the Vagliano Trophy, David Bond, Head of Performance Sport at the University of Stirling, was excited about the achievement.

“It’s a great achievement to gain selection and underlines that Lorna has enjoyed an outstanding season. Everyone at the University wishes Lorna and the team success in the match.”
