Single review: Bottle Rockets, Winter Baby

2 mins read

Glasgow-band Bottle Rockets are back and better than ever with their new single, Winter Baby – a feat which seemed impossible, considering the excellency of their last single, Limerence.

Winter Baby solidifies the sound they’ve been creating since the beginning – dark, moody, passionate and emotionally articulate.

So no, it’s not a festive spin off for Santa baby. If it was for the Yuletide, it would be dedicated to Krampus.

It starts by fading into a heavy electric guitar and drum track, creating a mood with palpable angst.

Quickly, Kenzi’s (the vocalist) slowly lurching vocals align with the instrumental.

“I have this feeling I’m unappealing.”

The tensions swirls around track, Kenzi’s clear vocals winding the listener up with ease.

As the verse concludes, the weight lifts. A euphoric chorus kicks in; it’s still melodically heavy, but releases the built-up pressure with hard hitting lyrics and drums.

“I’ve been cold since the womb.”

In the first minute, this track can already be solidified as one of the band’s best. Although, that’s splitting hairs; all of their tracks are consistently fantastic.

Bottle Rockets are a band to keep an eye out for. They are only getting better.

You can Bottle Rockets are their King Tuts gig on April 18. Tickets can be bought here.
