Why Sony wants you to forget about Bloodborne

2 mins read

FromSoftwares generation defining masterpiece, Bloodborne, seems to be getting swept under the rug by Sony.

In a recent poll on X, Sony asked its followers to vote on their favourite PlayStation-exclusive games. Games like Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part 1 were put against one another. Bloodborne, however, was absent from this list.

This sparked a wave of backlash from fans, many users of X voiced their grievances with Sony over this decision. Many also pointed out that it’s not really a best of the PlayStation’s full back catalogue, instead, it’s more of a “best of the PlayStation 4/5”.

This isn’t a surprise as some of Sony’s biggest successes have come from both those eras. One of those successes was Bloodborne.

Unlike other FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls or Elden Ring, Bloodborne was exclusive to the PlayStation 4. This of course prevented many people from playing the game, but since Sony has been porting many exclusives to PC, many people hope that Bloodborne will one day get ported.

Unfortunately, this seems unlikely because of the lack of Bloodborne on the poll.

There could be a few reasons for Bloodborne’s absence from the list. One could be that it doesn’t have a large mass market appeal. Unlike other Sony exclusives, Bloodborne isn’t as cinematic as something like Uncharted, it’s a Gothic surrealist nightmare that draws you in with its tight combat systems and sprawling open areas. It could be a risk to port it.

Another reason could be that Sony just isn’t interested in Bloodborne. In recent years Sony has pushed for more realistic and expansive games. Bloodborne sticks out amongst the others as it is far more stylised.

I would love for more people to have access to Bloodborne, it’s one of my favourite games and I’d argue it was one of the best from its generation. But, Sony doesn’t want to do anything with the IP. We will have to wait and see if Sony does anything for the game’s tenth anniversary next year.
