Los Campesinos! “Feast of Tongues” review: The return of cult classic indie-pop legends

2 mins read

Los Campesinos! makes a surprise return with the first single to their new album entitled, Feast of Tongues, a mellow pop song that explodes into indie hooks.

Feast of Tongues sees the band explore abusive relationships and veganism. This falls in line with much of LC!’s previous work, as they have always written songs about relationships.

The band took to social media earlier to discuss the upcoming album, “All Hell is an album on…drinking for fun and drinking for misery // adult acne // adult friendship // football // death and dying // love and sex // late-stage capitalism // Orpheus // day dreaming // night terrors // the heart as an organ and as a burden // suburban boredom // Tears of the Kingdom // the punks on the playlist // increments of time // climate apocalypse //the moon the moon the moon ///. It’s All Hell”

The song begins with quiet group vocals and a droning synth. It’s slow nature feels out of place compared to LC!’s usual bombastic indie sound.

The group vocals leave, making way for lead vocalist Gareth David to deliver his usual melancholy emo inspired lyrics.

The lyrics are pretty dark, lines like “The body is keeping score” and “Love lies bleeding in a dead boquet.”

The richness of Gareth’s lyrics never wane, since the bands inception his writing has always shone bright.

All of the instruments collide during the middle of the song. A hazey electric guitar trails along with the strings, all held together by the beat of the drums.

A guitar solo pulls everything together. The vocals make way for the instruments, giving them time to breathe.

In the outro of the song. Gareth and the backing vocals sing alongside each other, Gareth continues to sing the bridge, whereas the backing vocals repeat the phrase “A milestone. A milestone. A molehill. A molehill to die upon.”

It’s safe to say LC! are back, and are better than ever before.

All hell releases July 19

A UK tour will be announced soon.
