Amyl and The Sniffers “U Should Not Be Doing That” review: A ferocious display of self worth

2 mins read

After three years without new music, Amyl and The Sniffers have returned with a vicious display of self love and rejecting social norms, in U Should Not Be Doing That.

Released as a single, U Should Not Be Doing That also released with a B-side called Facts.

Lead signer, Amy Taylor, describes the song as “Self explanatory”. She says: “It’s also in a way poking fun at the shock that people still feel at a little bit of skimpy clothing, and the bitchy high school way that the music community still is.”

The song is accompanied by a music video, featuring Amy and actor Steven Ogg dancing around LA in a Rocky-esque training montage.

Starting with a strong base line, the rest of the instruments kick into a slower tempo than previous Amyl songs.

The entire song exudes a great deal of confidence and embodies what it means to love yourself.

The stand out line of the song is easily, “I’m working own my worth, I’m working on my work, I’m working on who I am.”

Amy delivers a banger chorus, backed by the rest of the bands classic punk style, creating a sound that is entirely their own and leagues above their contemporaries.

Guitarist Declan Martens shows off with a heated guitar solo accompanied by a cowbell and a saxophone, lending the song a very X-Ray Spex style.

Bringing the song to a close, the band repeat the chorus once more and Amy hammers the message of the song home.

Amyl and The Sniffers have yet to confirm a new album.

U Should Not Be Doing That and Facts can be streamed on Spotify
