Police Scotland announce riots in Glasgow today are unlikely

Police Scotland have made an official announcement about the speculation over riots occurring in Glasgow today.

They have reassured the public that there is no information pointing towards Glasgow being struck by the recent wave of riots.

Over the weekend, a number of riots sparked out across the UK and Northern Ireland.

These riots began after misinformation was spread about the murder of three girls in Southport, falsely accusing a Muslim man of the crimes.

However, the fear of riots in Glasgow has still caused the cancellation of several charity events.

Volunteer Glasgow announced the cancellation of their drop-in sessions yesterday, stating that they “Have been made aware of various reports” and that for the safety of their staff and clients they “will also be closed for the day, reopening on the 9th”.

Volunteer Glasgow is only one of the charities that have cancelled events in fear of the riots and the Scottish Defence League (SDL).

SDL has also made plans for this Friday (August, 9) in Paisley.

An account named The Scottish Defence Group announced riot plans on TikTok. However, the post has since been deleted.

The post asked those in Paisley to come to a “Peaceful protest about hundreds of illegal fighting-age men being housed in our communities that are a danger to our children”.

Those attending were asked to meet in the town, the location will be unknown until an hour before the protest.

Stay tuned to Brig as we cover the escalating situation.
