Silent Hill f has finally received a new trailer as well as new story details, both of which were revealed during yesterday’s Silent Hill Transmission.
Silent Hill f was first teased in 2022, details about the game have been scarce as Konami focused a majority of Silent Hill’s promotion over the last two years on last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake.
The upcoming game has been written by well known Japanese horror author Ryukishi07, known primarily for his series Higurashi When They Cry. Long time series composer Akira Yamaoka has also returned to compose for the game. Alongside Yamaoka, Kensuke Inage has joined the team behind Silent Hill f,
Both composers have separate focusses with Yamaoka taking on the task to compose the fog world sections, whereas Inage has composed the series’ iconic “otherworld” sections, known as the “Dark Shrine” within Silent Hill f.
It has been clear since Silent Hill f’s first teaser that the game will be set very far from the series’ roots. The game takes place in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, modelled after the real town of Kanayama in the Gifu prefecture of Japan.
Ebisugaoka may be very different from the classic fog covered street of the series’ titular town, however from what was shown in the trailer, the town seems to have the same claustrophobic architecture that made the early Silent Hill games so terrifying.

Silent Hill f’s story follows Shimizu Hinako, a young woman that finds herself trapped in the town of Ebisugaoka as a mysterious fog rolls into town. She must solve puzzles and fend off bizarre enemies, all in an attempt to face a decision she must make.
The specific details behind Hinako’s journey are unclear at this time, however it can be speculated that the game will take heavy inspiration from James Sunderland’s journey in Silent Hill 2 as the parallels are clear within the short plot Konami has revealed.
Silent Hill f was made in an attempt to bring Silent Hill back to its Japanese roots as since its inception, Silent Hill has always been made by a Japanese team.
Series producer Motoi Okamoto revealed the studios thought process in making Silent Hill f by stating, “I believe the Silent Hill series was born out of blending the essence of Japanese horror with the essence of western horror. However, as it was based in the West for the longest time, it felt like the Japanese influence was fading. And so, this made us think, ‘What if we go in the opposite direction and make it 100 percent Japanese horror.’ And this game is the result.”
No release date was provided, but Silent Hill f can be wish listed on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store.
