Tyler, The Creator ‘Don’t Tap The Glass’ Review: A Glass Shattering Departure ★★★★☆

Tyler, The Creator’s Don’t Tap The Glass(DTTG) lacks the depth of his 2024 hit Chromakopia, but makes up for that by delivering a steady stream of great tunes you can’t help but move to. 

DTTG comes in as Tyler’s shortest effort at only thirty minutes long. This short runtime actually benefits the album’s point, that point being: put down the phone, move your body and just listen to the music.

In a world where we’re caught up in subtext and lyrical nuance, DTTG stands out for being so blunt in its approach. Tyler plays up the bravado, amps up the synths and cracks out beats ripped straight from the 80s. 

Album opener Big Poe begins by listing the three core pillars the album stands by: “Number 1: body movement, Number 2: Only Speak in Glory, Number 3: don’t tap the glass.”

The speed at which Tyler rips through each track is exhilarating, and each song seamlessly blends in with one another; however, as always, some tracks stand out as being “better” than others. 

Sugar On My Tongue sees Tyler bring forward his signature synths, mixed with lyrics with a message that is not so hard to decipher from the title alone. Stop Playing With Me keeps up the bravado and uses some excellent samples to deliver a memorable track that’s bound to go down as one of Tyler’s most iconic of this decade. 

Tyler himself stated in response to fans complaining about the album and comparing it to his previous work that they should, “Let it be what it is.”

 It’s a sentiment that’s hard to disagree with; it’s all too easy to compare albums the minute they’re released to an artist’s previous output. Everyone who’s a fan of music is guilty of it in some way, but in the wake of DTTG, hopefully, Tyler’s message has an impact on his audience. 


If you’re already a fan of Tyler, The Creator, DTTG is well worth a listen or two, just remember to keep moving whilst you listen to it to really feel the music.
