Scottish Gothic Horror Publishing Company To Close This June

Fife-based indie publisher Haunt Publishing is set to close its doors this coming June 1.

Known for publishing a range of dark fiction and gothic horror books, Haunt Publishing has been a staple in the indie publishing scene in Scotland since it was created in 2019.

In speaking to Brig about the upcoming closure, Managing Director of Haunt Publishing, Rebbeca Wojturska, stated that her goal with Haunt was to “spotlight underrepresented writers,” and over the course of their seven years of operation, she said, “we are proud to say we achieved that.”

Haunt successfully debuted novels from five authors and published short stories for a further 90 through their anthology short story collections.

Some of Haunt’s resident authors have been commended for multiple literary awards, including the Shirley Jackson Awards, the Small Spec Book Awards, and the Forward Prize for Poetry, to name a few.

Upon Haunt ceasing operations in June, all rights to the works published through them will revert to the original authors.

The closure of Haunt is a blow to aspiring authors across the UK, but Rebecca and the team are still open to discussions with other publishers to transfer their authors.
