Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) make their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Marvel’s WandaVision series that premiered on Disney+ January 15th.
WandaVision is a refreshing start to Phase 4 with nothing that we have seen from Marvel before. Marvel Studios states that it is “a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic universe”.
The sitcom styled show plays out through the 1950s, 60s, 70s and beyond, each episode showing a different era in time. The first few episodes influenced by sitcoms such as The Dick van Dyke Show, Bewitched and The Brady Bunch.
Not so normal Wanda and Vision (two enhanced beings) find themselves in what appears to be a normal perfect suburban town, however, the reality is not everything as it seems.
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany slip back into their characters that they have played in films such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The pair seem to be having fun with their characters and embodying them very well.
Director Matt Shakman has previously directed shows such as it’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Game of Thrones and Everybody Hates Chris showing that he could handle this superhero sitcom.
New episodes will be released every Friday on Disney+.
