After twenty-five years, Ayrshire’s own, Biffy Clyro continue to prove why they’ve been Scotland’s flagship rock band for so long.
For a band that’s explored just about every inch of Scotland’s music scene, Futique has Biffy continue to push the barriers that divide the indie artists from the popular artists in Scotland.
Starting as teenage punk rockers with their first three records, Biffy became more mainstream by the time of their fourth album Puzzle and only continued to grow into the 2010’s. But in 2025 Biffy Clyro are more of a household name in the UK than they’ve ever been.
Futique see’s the lads tread some familiar ground but with a new found certainty. Coming off of the double-punch that was A Celebration of Endings and The Myth of Happily Ever After four years ago, it’s clear that Biffy wanted to break away from the mostly reflective tracks both those records offered.
That’s not to say Futique doesn’t have its fair share of reflective tunes, it’s a Biffy record after all, you’re expecting at least a couple. Woe Is Me, Wow Is You lures the listener in with the promise of a slow opening that breaks down as the song rushes to a thrilling conclusion.
Lead single and album opener A Little Love has the stadium anthem DNA of Biffy hits like Bubbles and Biblical, but retains its own identity due to the rapid drum beat and melodic piano.
There’s plenty of other standouts on Futique, Hunting Season and Dearest Amygdala in particular that shine a light on the band’s ability to transcend the rock genre and incorporate other genres cleanly.
Dearest Amygdala in particular incorporates some funky synths that helps to separate it from the other guitar heavy tracks on the album.
Hunting Season has the brashness you’d expect from a classic early 2000’s Biffy tune but functions well as one of Futique’s heavier tracks with the full scale breakdown that occurs as the song starts to draw to a close.
Futique fits perfectly within Biffy’s new identity. They’re full of heart and happy to celebrate life, love and peace. The 2020’s have been a great time to be a fan of Biffy Clyro, after three great albums and a celebratory tour last year, there’s no telling where the lads will go next. Mon the Biff!
