Uni Boob are encouraging you to donate your old bras to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The university’s Uni Boob team are recognising and raising awareness of Breast Cancer Awareness month by teaming up with the Green and Blue Space to promote their bra drive.
The team are looking for donations of old bras as well as clothes that you don’t wear anymore to be donated throughout the month of October. The donated bras are being sent to African communities and with every tonne of bras donated, £700 will go to the Against Breast Cancer charity.
The bra drive lives in the Green and Blue space throughout the year where, at any time of the year, you can donate your old bras and give to charity. Uni Boob president Emily Hencher said, “The bra bank in the Green and Blue space was doing better than we expected. We managed to get ten bags filled when we only expected to get three.”
At the beginning of the month, the team had 19 donated bras and they are now hoping for an increase throughout the month. With their trusty friend Barbara, Emily and her team will be outside Nisa every Wednesday, 10am until 4pm, for the rest of October collecting all of your old bras.
The team also work alongside the charity Coppafeel, who this month have teamed with Vans and have created a line encouraging us to check ourselves regularly. One in eight UK women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Coppafeel campaign for early detection, which can save lives.
The charity are dedicated to encouraging young people to check themselves regularly after their founder, Kris, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the age of 23. This year they are celebrating their tenth birthday. You can donate to CoppaFeel at the UniBoob stall.
The dedicated members of the Uni Boob team are willing to come and collect donations if you are unable to make it to campus. They are urging people to get in touch with the team through their social media pages or their email, ubtstirling@gmail.com, if people want to donate but are unable to get onto campus.
The bra bank is permanently available in the Green and Blue space for any donations.
