Janna’s Bakery: Stirling’s newest addition to the food scene

3 mins read

Located on 67 Port Street, Janna’s Bakery is Stirling’s newest addition to the food scene.

The bakery – which is open for takeaway and sit in – is owned by Janna Koç and is already boasting some of the best cinnamon rolls in Stirling. The bakery sells sandwiches, paninis and hot drinks, as well as a variety of baked goods.

Janna moved to Stirling six years ago to be with her husband. Prior to being in the baking business, Janna ran an Italian restaurant in Turkey.

Janna applied for the bakery space in June 2021 and received permission in February. The wait left Janna considering other opportunities, like a clothes shop.

“It was a very long journey,” says Janna. “I started with the cinnamon rolls. My first customer, she got the cinnamon rolls, and I was quite excited. I didn’t have anything, so I had to make a box from foil and cardboard – whatever I had at home. The first customer also asked for icing separate, and I took a Bonne Maman jam jar to put the icing in. And that was the start.

“So, after one month I got very popular with my cinnamon rolls and then later on it was my berry cakes, etcetera, and now here I am. Here I am and I am proud of myself, yes. I’m happy to see my customers loving it. I’m happy to see my customers loving me and that’s a big, big, big pride for myself.”

The cinnamon rolls are the most popular item, followed by the apple strudel, carrot cake, berry cake and brownies.

Janna said: “I always loved baking, I always loved the kitchen, but during the pandemic it became more. I fell in love with it even stronger. My aunt is a baker as well and I learnt from her when I was a child.

“After getting married to a Turkish man I got even deeper in the kitchen. Life changed, really! And during the pandemic I was trying to make everything for my family and then – after – I decided why not make other people happy as well?”

Janna’s main baking principle is to avoid artificial ingredients. She takes pride in using high quality ingredients for high quality baked goods.

“It’s a big, big step,” says Janna. “A big responsible step for me, and I do promise that I will never disappoint my customers.”

Janna’s Bakery is open 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 4pm on Saturday. The bakery is currently closed on Sundays.
