The Force is strong with Obi-Wan Kenobi Part V

2 mins read

Full of flashbacks, double-crossing, action, and heartbreak, Part V of Obi-Wan Kenobi is the best one yet.

The most recent episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi seems to follow the pattern of paying tribute to specific films of the main saga. Similarly to Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980, dir. Irvin Kershner), Part V of the TV show contains a major plot twist and reveals the true power of Lord Vader.

The episode is as nostalgic as it is tragic, starting with the main characters’ happy memories and immediately cutting to the grim and sombre present with an instant, heart-wrenching change in music. The production team must be commended for executing the cut so flawlessly; the scenes are hard to watch, making the stark contrast between past and present agonising for the viewer.

While Obi-Wan himself had his moments, it was the two antagonists who stole the episode. Both the Third Sister and Darth Vader have proven to be cunning and vengeful, depicting the real power of the Dark Side. While Third Sister is often underestimated by her peers, Lord Vader is a feared and powerful spectacle not only to the whole galaxy, but to the viewer as well. The only one who seems to see past the ominous mask is his former master – Obi-Wan’s inner turmoil is overcoming the love for his brother to fight the evil he’s become.

The finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Wednesday, June 22 on Disney+.
