Drew Davies’ latest single You’re the Only One comes out this Friday (January 12), shortly after he announced his upcoming debut album. The single is the fourth track on his first album, Holloway Nights (releasing January 26) and follows the theme of his latest singles.
You’re the Only One features Drew’s signature sounds – a subtle synth in the background, guitars taking the lead, and Drew’s passionate vocals pulling it all together.
Discussing his latest single, Drew said: “If Holloway Nights were a series of diary entries on the life cycle of a relationship, then You’re the Only One would be the first entry.
“I wrote the original cords late one night after a chance encounter caused a frisson in me, the words followed shortly behind.
“It encapsulates the warmth, rapture and uncertainty felt when we first have that romantic fire lit in us. It’s my truest work to date.”
Starting off with a strong strum, Drew wastes no time in getting into this track. Vocalised hums are heard in the background as synth, drums and guitar build up to the first lyrics.
Once Drew starts to sing, the pacing becomes calmer and more thoughtful, inviting the listener into this private experience of his.
An overlap begins to build as backing vocals, instruments, and Drew’s lyrical performance sync up creating an apex to the track. Drew assures the subject of this song that even although they may not know him well, “it will be alright”.
He belts out “you’re the only one on my mind tonight” as the song reaches it’s peak. You can picture the crowd waving the torches on their phones to this track as it finishes on a powerful, strung-out note.
You’re the Only One fits with Drew’s dark, synth style and yet accomplishes a romantic feel through its lyrics.
