Stirling’s Student Union faces an uncertain future due to building closures. After the discovery of RAAC in Stirling University, students and staff have been faced with disruption. Certain parts of the building have been closed off for health and safety reasons.
One of these sections is the old Student Union bar, who have had to relocate downstairs. Since relocation, the Student Union have struggled to make students aware of their relocation.

The closure is blocking off the staircase from the Atrium to Venue. Students now have to take a detour if they want to visit the union.
It’s looking like the disruption could go on for some time, with no set date for the union reopening upstairs.
Student Union comment
A Union spokesperson said: “the Union are working closely with the University to ascertain the extent of RAAC and to bring the building back into use as soon as practically possible. The fabric of the building is currently under assessment and whilst this work continues, we will not have a current timeframe for re-opening.”
The union are trying to maintain their motto of “making student’s lives better,” even within these circumstances. Workers are still coming in and having to adapt to many changes in order to keep things running.

The union spokesperson said: “As such, we are undertaking an ongoing assessment of wider impact to our offering with the spaces we have available. Understandably, any changes to delivery will require time to bed in as we all develop new habits.
“We are monitoring developments closely and confident that our spaces can continue to bring vibrancy and great value for money food and drink to our members.”
The union have been busy advertising where they are now and how to get to them.
“We’ve added additional signage and videos on our social media to highlight how the Union outlets can be accessed so students can enjoy the great menus and bar on offer in Underground (Starbucks) and Venue.
“We are also working with University Estates in ensuring campus safety as students exit the Atrium opposite the Green & Blue toward the Underground/Long Bar.”
Stirling University have also commented on the disruption, and what is happening with the RAAC. A spokesperson said: “Work remains ongoing with specialists, including on-site structural engineers, to carry out further investigations and assess next steps.”
