SAAS announce new payment option during the cost-of-living crisis

2 mins read

The Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) have announced their new payment option for the academic year 2024/25.

Students receiving undergraduate living cost support SAAS payments will now have the option to spread their payments over the calendar year. Currently, it is only paid out during the academic year with no payments throughout the summer.

Students usually pick up extra shifts in the summer at their part-time jobs to fund their studies. So, this new payment plan will give many the option to take some time off.

The option to apply for this payment schedule will be available when students reapply for SAAS. This will apply to the loan, bursary, and any other SAAS living cost grants.

Furthermore, the chosen payment option will last the entirety of the academic year and students will be unable to change this until they reapply the following year.

SAAS are offering support and advice for students who are unsure about what payment option to go with. Interactive online sessions will be hosted from 11 March 2024, you can book a place here. The sessions aim to explain the new payment option and allow applicants to ask any questions they may have.

In an announcement email sent to students receiving SAAS, they said: “When SAAS open for applications in early April, you should apply straight away and before 30 June to ensure your funding is in place for the start of your course, visit SAAS website.”

The Student Awards Agency Scotland can also be contacted here with any questions about the new payment option.
