Life Is Strange announced their latest title on 9 June, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure in a short teaser-trailer. However, Double Exposure isn’t just the franchise’s latest edition. This game brings us back to where the franchise started with fan favourite character Max Caulfield back as the protagonist.
This game follows Max some years in the future since we last saw her in Arcadia Bay. New art style, new haircut, new surroundings, new friends. Yet fans are ecstatic about having their beloved, dorky, and sometimes awkward Max back despite the changes.
The sneak peek gave us a brief overview of the plot and main characters, as well as some other details that die-hard fans went straight to analysing. Double Exposure follows Max as she uses her powers to shift between alternate realities to try to solve (and therefore prevent) her friend’s murder. Sound familiar? While this is a similar plot to the original Life Is Strange, the majority of fans don’t seem too bothered. Although, a unique plot would’ve been nice.

Some viewers took interest in the alternate realities plot as it’s the plot used in the Life Is Strange comics. The comics follow Max and Chloe’s story (continuing from the “save Chloe” ending) as Max’s powers evolve and she jumps through various realities. For those more focused on gameplay and storylines, you may wonder what the hype is all about with this somewhat recycled plotline.
Well, fans of the characters of Life Is Strange and LiS: Before the Storm are overjoyed not only at the return of Max but the possible return of other characters such as Chloe, Nathan, and Rachel. The alternate reality plotline opens up the possibility for these characters to return. It’ll be interested to see what Deck Nine choose to do – with both the characters and the story.
