Current VP Communities, Justine Pédussel, has posted an update about what she has been up to in her role over the summer. Justine was elected earlier this year after serving as the Housing Officer for the 2023/24 period.
Her pledge included focuses on sustainability, the cost of living crisis students face, inclusion and building power, and building community with the help of Stirling University’s societies.
Justine’s June to August update showed some of the work she has been doing to honour her pledges.
During this time, she notes that she has been “working with Sabbs across Scotland and the UK” where they would share “ideas and experiences on different campaigns, but especially housing, harm reduction, and sustainability”.
New bus schedule
An update on the McGills buses on campus has also been given. Justine wrote that she had attended a community meeting focused on buses and the punctuality of them was discussed. The outcome is that from 9 September, buses between 7pm and 11pm will run every 15 minutes. An updated timetable reflecting these changes should be in bus shelters before 9 September.
Justine advises that “any grievances about the buses, DM me with date, time, bus number and what happened. I will make a list of complaints in preparation for each meeting”. The VP Communities can be reached at @stir_communities on Instagram.
Cost-of-living aid
Sticking with her pledge to help students suffering from the current cost-of-living crisis, Justine has arranged a microwave to be accessible to students. This will allow more students to bring their own hot lunches to campus, saving them money from eating out.
“I’ve been working with the university over the last few months and there will be a microwave accessible to students soon, although, unfortunately, a date cannot be confirmed. There are some things to sort out around power sockets, but this is being arranged as quickly as possible,” Justine wrote.
Justine can be reached at @stir_communities on Instagram for students with further questions or concerns.
