Film studio giant, Searchlight, are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year with a “This is Searchlight” event. For this milestone the studio will be re-showing a few of their old films in Picture House theatres across the UK throughout the end of September and the month of November.

The Shape of Water

Firstly, celebrations kicked off on 20 September with The Shape of Water, originally released in 2017. Four-time Oscar winner, this romance movie combines history and sci-fi.

Set in the Cold War era in America, The Shape of Water follows high-security government lab worker, Elisa (Sally Hawkins), as her life of isolation evolves when she uncovers a classified experiment.

If you missed this rerun, it will be shown again at Phoenix Picture House in Oxford on 26 September.

The Full Monty

Also making a return to the big screen is The Full Monty (1997). Follow six unemployed ex-steel workers as they form a male striptease act to gain financial security. The guys are cheered on by a female audience begging for them to do the “full monty” (go completely nude) in this classic film.

Showings will run between 4 – 10 October throughout various Picture House locations. Cameo’s turn will be on 6 October.

Little Miss Sunshine

Originally released in 2006, this two-time Oscar winner is packed with big names. Steve Carell, Toni Collette, and Greg Kinnear all star in this coming of age/ quirky comedy film.

This film follows a family road tripping across the country, determined to get their daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant.

Little Miss Sunshine makes a comeback between 20-23 October.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Another fan favourite, 2014’s comedy-drama The Grand Budapest Hotel, is also included in the line-up. Directed by Wes Anderson, this film tells the story of an owner of the aging, high-class hotel as he reflects on his early days of working as a lobby boy during the hotel’s glory years.

It has a more limited schedule, however, with only two dates released. This film will be shown on 24 November and 26 November, with Cameo showing it on the first date.

More information

More showings in the line-up include Never Let Me Go (2010), The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), Nomadland (2021) (which includes a Q&A with director Chloé Zhao on 3 October showing), Stoker (2013), (500) Days of Summer (2009), Sideways (2004), and Sunshine (2007).
