The results of this year’s by-election for the positions of media officer and NUS delegate have been announced
Voter turnout was 108 students.
Calum Sutherland was elected as the Students’ Union’s new media officer, with 83 votes, whilst RON (Re-open nominations) received 25 votes.
Giving his reaction to being elected, Sutherland said: “I’m thrilled to have been elected as media officer and I’m very much looking forward to representing the media societies within the Students’ Union. Starting as soon as possible, I’d like to establish frequent communication with the Media heads and work with them towards my manifesto goals.”
Sutherland also added his thanks to students saying: “I’d just like to express my gratitude to everyone who took the time to vote. I know this probably wasn’t the election at the forefront of everyone’s mind right now, and with all the distractions caused by the pandemic it’s very much appreciated. Thank you!”

Lauren Harper was elected as the Stirling Students’ Union’s new NUS delegate receiving 77 votes, whilst RON received 27 votes.
Reflecting on being elected, Harper said that she was glad her “manifesto resonated with the students of Stirling who have recognised the same problems as I have that exist systematically within our universities.’
Harper added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the students of Stirling for their votes and to ensure them that I will do everything possible to represent them in my role. I will do my best to make positive steps towards promoting tenants’ rights and democracy and fighting the mental health crisis on our campuses.”
