In September year, Douglas Ross who is an MP and MSP alongside his role as Leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party said during a committee session with Channel 4 executives, that he and his wife “could be part of it (Gogglebox)” because they “watch it every week” , so it was “just crazy” that the programme did not feature a Scottish family or pairing.

Channel 4 executive Alex Mahon said that of the 99 complaints it received last year about the programming of the channel , 50% related to the lack of Scottish representation on the show specifically.

In response to that criticism in November last year, Channel 4 announced that they had allocated a “specific budget for a dedicated casting team specifically tasked with finding a suitable Scottish family” for Gogglebox.
