The popular Netflix series Stranger Things is to receive multiple spin-offs.

The series that first aired on Netflix in 2016 will now have a spinoff of a play and a TV series.

The play will be directed by Stephen Daldry, who has previously won three Tony awards and received nominations for Academy Awards. It will be produced by Sonia Friedman who has also won Tony Awards and Olivier awards.

The TV series spin-off will be a “live-action” adaptation and is devised by the original creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-chief executive and chief content officer, said: “Matt and Ross [Duffer] are an exceptionally unique talent with a vision so crisp and clear.

“They are all about the details – it’s no accident that Stranger Things has pierced the zeitgeist to become the epic pop culture phenomenon it is today.”

Netflix has recently released the fourth series of Stranger Things.
